Nutritional Assessment
The main focus of Nutritional Counseling is to create a program to maintain good health.
At The Healing Zone we pride ourselves on our easy to follow and successful, “Journey To Wellness Program.” This program begins with you making a commitment to yourself to eat healthy and feel good.
Next, you will fill out a questionnaire describing different signs and symptoms of nutritional imbalances. A computerized graph will be printed out from this information. The graph will show you different facets of your diet and how that reflects in your health. We will be looking at nutritional deficiency or excess, digestion, absorption, and elimination or detoxification strategies.
Nutritional deficiency or excess means that your proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals are out of balance. This happens for many reasons: it may be that you are not eating healthy food, the junk food you are eating uses up good nutrients to process it, or the nutrients you are eating aren’t in the correct ratios to be absorbed. (i.e.) calcium to magnesium
Nutrition is also about digestion. You may not be getting the nutrition you need if you have poor digestion. (eg.) low stomach acid. Digestion is also impaired if you over eat or eat too many processed foods. eg. junk food. Food intolerances/sensitivities that create mucous and inflammation also adversely affect good digestion.
Absorption is very important as well. If the food that you are eating isn’t being digested you will not benefit from good absorption. Good absorption is necessary for the nutrients to be made into healthy structures of the body.
Nutritional detoxification or getting the waste out is nutrient driven. In other words you have to eat good nutrition (vitamins, minerals, especially trace minerals, water, fiber, healthy fats, etc.) to get rid of the bad waste (trans fats, heavy metals, undigested foods, toxins, and other pollutants). Getting rid of the waste is important to allow cells to function optimally and maintain good health.
Finally, lifestyle factors such as irregular eating habits and stress influence nutrition as well. Stress reduction and regular eating habits promote good digestion and maintenance of good health.
